Welcome to the Journey
For my first blog post, I thought I’d give a little status update. This might be a bit all over the place, but I’ll do my best to keep it together.
We’ve finally wrapped up all the construction on the house, and now we’re in the process of closing. There’s just one final piece left: selling my truck to meet the required debt-to-income ratio. Honestly, that’s fine—I was planning on selling it anyway.
Once all of that is done, I’ll finally feel free. Or at least the freest I’ve been in over two years.
You see, we built most of this house ourselves. I’ve got a background in construction, and I work as an HVAC technician, so I was able to handle a lot of the work on my own. What I couldn’t do, I hired out to subcontractors I trusted. It’s been a long, challenging road—but a rewarding one.
In the middle of working full-time and building a home, I haven’t had much time for anything else. Hunting, fishing, gardening—those hobbies have been on pause. But now that we’re turning the page, I’m finally getting back to the things I love.
There’s a lot of catching up to do. My next big project is developing a homestead. I’ll be starting a garden soon and hope to grow enough extra to start selling some of the plants too.
Beyond that, there’s a lot to prepare for deer season. With the right work and care, this land has the potential to become a wildlife haven. I need to establish new stand locations and fix up the ones that have fallen into disrepair.
Which brings me to the goal of this blog: I want to bring anyone who’s interested along for the ride. I hope we can learn, grow, and build something meaningful together—whether you’re here for the gardening, the land management, the homesteading life, or just the story itself. Down the road, I may even start documenting everything on YouTube depending on how this goes.
I plan to share updates once a week to start—maybe more as I get into the rhythm of it.
This website is also a work in progress. It’s my first time building one, so there’s a learning curve—but I’m excited to improve it over time and shape it into something that feels like home.
That’s all I’ve got for now. Just a simple update and a little glimpse of what’s to come. But hey—it’s a start.
Thanks for being here.
Have a great rest of your week!
